FISHERFOLKS IN GAMASHIE BENEFIT FROM GOVERNMENT'S SUBSIDIZED OUTBOARD MOTORS




The Ministry for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has distributed 50 outboard motors to fishermen in Ashiedu Keteke.


With these subsidized outboard motors, the government and fishermen share the cost equally and it is to support the livelihood of the fishers and the fishing communities.


Nii Lante Bannerman, Chairman for the Premix Fuel Committee at the distribution of the outboard motors said government is

delivering on its promise to fisherfolks and the construction of the fishing harbor is a testimony.


He explained further that the distribution of the outboard motors to fishermen has been made affordable by government through the Ministry of Fisheries in collaboration with the Coastal Development Authority. He encouraged the  fishermen to take care of the outboard motors and use it for its intended purpose.


Raymond Tettey, Sub-Metro Chairman of Ashiedu Keteke stated that 200 outboard motors has been earmarked for distribution to fishermen in Ashiedu Keteke. This number is out of the over 5,000 outboard motors procured by government to improve the quality of life and improve the productivity of fishermen. 


Nettey Akoso, Spokesperson for fishermen in Jamestown expressed gratitude to the Ministry and lauded the efforts of the National Premix Fuel Chairman,Nii Lante Bannerman for how well fisherfolks have benefitted from constant supply of premix fuel. He promised that the outboard motors will be put to good use so as to enhance their work effectively and efficiently.


Other dignitaries that graced the occasion include Hon. Ben Armah, Coordinating Director A.M.A, Hon. Nii Lante Plange NADMO Coordinator A.M.A, Hon. Ivan Esinam, Sub-Metro Chairman Ablekuma South, Representatives from the Fisheries Commission and other Representations from the Jamestown and Chorkor fishing community.
